{"id":248,"date":"2014-03-31T16:47:24","date_gmt":"2014-03-31T20:47:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.kblaugheed.com\/content\/?p=248"},"modified":"2014-03-31T16:52:42","modified_gmt":"2014-03-31T20:52:42","slug":"whats-it-all-about","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kblaugheed.com\/content\/2014\/03\/31\/whats-it-all-about\/","title":{"rendered":"What&#8217;s It All About?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Whenever I tell people I&#8217;ve written a novel, the first question they always ask is: w<em>hat&#8217;s it about?<\/em><\/p>\n<p>I find this question difficult to answer.<\/p>\n<p>On its surface, <em>The Spirit Keeper<\/em> is an Indian captivity narrative set in 1747 in which a 17-year-old girl is removed from her frontier Pennsylvania home by Indians.<\/p>\n<p>But anyone who&#8217;s read <em>The Spirit Keeper<\/em> knows that&#8217;s not what the book is about at all. \u00a0In fact, just about every single person I&#8217;ve talked to who&#8217;s read <em>The Spirit Keeper<\/em> has given me a completely different interpretation of what he\/she thinks book is about.<\/p>\n<p>And <strong>THAT<\/strong>, of course, is what <em>The Spirit Keeper<\/em> is really about. \u00a0It&#8217;s all about perspective, which is a frail and ephemeral thing, unique to every individual, every place, and every passing moment. \u00a0And because perspective is also subject to eternal evolution, a reader&#8217;s opinion of what this book is about may actually change more than once in the course of the story.<\/p>\n<p>I know this all sounds like a cagey way of trying to keep from pigeonholing my book, but, honestly, you will find that when you read<em>\u00a0The Spirit Keeper<\/em>, the perspective you bring to the story determines&#8211;more than most stories&#8211;what you think the book is about, \u00a0Therefore, if you really want to know what the book is about, I guess all I can say is, it&#8217;s sort of about you.<\/p>\n<p>So if you haven&#8217;t read it yet, you&#8217;d better get yourself a copy and find out what I&#8217;ve been writi<span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">ng about you. \u00a0Then drop me a line here on my website and tell me what<\/span><em style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\"> you<\/em><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\"> think <\/span><em style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">The Spirit Keeper<\/em><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\"> is about!<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Whenever I tell people I&#8217;ve written a novel, the first question they always ask is: what&#8217;s it about?
